Invitation from the Chair of the Congress Committee

This Congress will challenge delegates with the issues of achieving
Australia's expected population growth of 35 million people by 2050.
Are our cities and regions prepared to address this expected expansion
to our infrastructure, energy needs and resource development?
Is it the responsibility of Local Government working with their
communities or does there need to be a National policy to bring together
the issues and challenges of climate change and it’s impact upon the
urban structure of our growth centres?
I invite you to be part of this International Congress in Adelaide
between November 1st to 4th for what promises to be a dynamic and
interactive Congress program. Bring your ideas and experiences so
that we may learn together and explore new ways to improve the quality
of life, human settlements and the protection of our natural resources.
There is a need to address the global perspective of our East Asian
Region and Australasia as these topics are being placed on the
international agenda for Governments and industry’s attention for the
long term social, economic and environmental planning within our region.

Invitation from the PIA State President
Planning for EAROPH’s Golden Jubilee Congress - Cities and their
Regions: Catalysts for Change has developed into a great international
conference that will be a learning experience, a networking opportunity
for delegates from various careers and cultures.
We have built a program of engaging speakers, site tours and
networking events that will provide excellent opportunities for us to
share our knowledge, build our skills and learn from each other.
Adelaide in October/November will be warm, but not too hot, and green
after the Spring rains. We are always a friendly city that is easy to
get around due to its compact nature and inner city transport.
Your Congress Organising Committee is dedicated to bringing you an
interesting, informative and enjoyable four days in Adelaide. We invite
you to come a few days earlier or stay a few days longer to discover the
rest of this beautiful State of South Australia. All that is
missing from our Congress now is you. Please get online to register and
book your flights as soon as you can. We can’t wait to see you in
Adelaide.

About the Congress
In 2010 the Eastern Regional Organisation of Planning and Human
Settlements (EAROPH) will celebrate its 50th year with a Golden Jubilee
Congress in Adelaide, almost 25 years since it partnered with the Royal
Australian Planning Institute and International Federation of Planning
and Housing to shape the highly successful World Planning and Housing
Congress in Adelaide in 1986. South Australia was successful in
the bid to host this congress through the support provided by the State
Government, the Adelaide City Council, the Local Government
Association and the Universities. The Planning Institute of
Australia, South Australian Division has entered into an agreement with
EAROPH to act as the local host organisation with responsibility for
managing all aspects of the conference.
The Congress will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, North
Terrace, Adelaide, between Sunday 31st October and Thursday, 4th
November 2010. It will commence with a Congress registration and
President's Dinner on Sunday night
and conclude with a day of site visits followed by an Aussie BBQ on the
Thursday night.
